A cover-up is a new tattoo designed around an existing one so the old ink becomes part of the shadows of the new piece. Soulraven Studios plans every cover-up at an in-studio consultation, because the size, darkness and placement of the old tattoo decide what will genuinely hide it.
Cover-ups are a regular part of the studio’s work, from a small name on a wrist to multi-session pieces over large old tattoos. The rule is simple: the new design is bigger and darker than what it hides, and the old tattoo sits where the new one is darkest. Black and grey florals, animals, smoke and organic shapes cover best.
Bring a clear photo of the existing tattoo in daylight, or come to the consultation. Some pieces cover cleanly in one design; some need two or three sessions; a few are better lightened with laser first. You will get an honest plan before any deposit is taken.

Can any tattoo be covered?
Most can, with the right size and subject. Very dark, solid areas limit the options and may need laser lightening first.
How much bigger will the cover-up be?
Usually at least twice the size of the old tattoo, and often more. The consultation settles it.
